Give Him His Shakes!

My mom tells a story of me as a little girl, some sort of talent show that we did as a family, and I was all sorts of nervous.  Then show time came and I turned to her and said, "Give me my shakes!"  I took those marachas and did my thing.  I am still painfully shy but when I need to do it, I generally do.  I have always said that teachers have to be great actors if they want to be successful.

For the past three weeks Darren and his classmates have been practicing for their Winter Gala.  It was billed as a one hour showcase of each classrooms talents; the truth is it lasted less than three minutes.  Since Darren is only in class two mornings a week he did much less practicing than the other kids and was very confused that we were going back to school at dinner time, so it didn't surprise me that he looked a bit shell shocked to be thrust in front of an audience and asked to perform.  He was on the brink of tears as they read through their poems, but busted out his shakes for the final song (1:35 mark)!

Thank goodness we sing Twinkle, Twinkle A LOT at home!
